A Girls Day In Liverpool

Today I spent the day in Liverpool with my mum and little sister. We have all been super busy lately and haven’t really made a lot of time to do things together that we enjoy. Every year us three girls take a trip into Liverpool to see a show at Liverpool Empire and go for a nice spot of lunch and some shopping before retiring home to our pj’s and fluffy socks in front of the tv.

I haven’t been feeling very festive this year due to tough times in my job and busy shift patterns; so a relaxing day out to unwind was just what I needed. It felt so Christmassy to hear all the choirs and brass bands filling the streets with Christmas music streets and browsing through all the stocking stuffer gifts.

We went to see Dick Whittington at Liverpool Empire. The show was so uplifting to watch and the cast did a really good job at getting everyone up on their feet and singing along. We then popped into Liverpool One for a spot of late lunch. I may off gone a little overload on the desserts. Not one ounce of guilt was felt; it is aloud at Christmas right?

I am now starting to feel festive after our little Christmas tradition outing. Is there anything you do every year at Christmas time? Are you looking forward to Christmas?

Review | Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream

I am sure you beauty addicts are all very familiar with this 80’s classic delight that is Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream. I have seen this floating around the beauty community for year’s but at £26 for a 50ml product I resisted being frivolous with my hard earned penny’s. I was recently shopping in my local savers and I stumbled across this Eight Hour Duo for only £2.99 each for 30ml products. What a steal!!!

I picked up the Original Eight Hour Cream and the Eight Hour Cream Intensive Moisturising Hand Treatment (Nurses addiction to hand cream got the better of me). The original Eight Hour Cream is well known for it’s unique smell. Some love it, some hate it. Personally I am not too fussed on the scent as it is so strong but because the product is just so bloody brilliant i almost forget about the scent of it. You can also purchase a fragrance free version if that is something that suits your liking more.

I use the Eight Hour Cream for everything; My Lips, Nose and dry areas such as elbows and cuticles. It really is a wonder product. It moisturises and repairs skin like no other moisturiser. I have not used any other lip balm since I have purchased this because nothing compares to the level of moisture is gives. I love applying to my lips just before I step outside in the cold as it fully protects my lips from the cold dry weather and leaves them feeling plumped and rejuvenated all day. I resembled Rudolph recently due to having a cold, I smoothed this cream around my nose and it took away all the redness and left my skin super soft and smooth. It also applied well over makeup on any dry patches and does not separate the makeup underneath.

It is the definition of an all in one product. It is an ultimate staple needed in any makeup bag. I have had this 30ml tube for a few months now, I use it every single say and I still have more than half the tube left. It just lasts forever. If you have a savers near you I would recommend popping and seeing if you can nab yourself a deal.

I also purchased the mini Eight Hour Intensive Moisturising Hand Treatment. Being a nurse I am quite familiar with having dry and painful hands due to washing them constantly and wearing latex gloves. Over the years I have tried numerous hand creams but I have yet to find a holy grail that actually works. I think I have finally found it! You only need a pea sized amount of this as a little goes a long way. It is a super thick hand cream that is non greasy and sinks into hands quickly. I have found it has really helped to leave my cuticles soft and moisturised. It does also have the same smell as the original Eight Hour Cream but the scent does not bother me at all on my hands.

These would be great little stocking stuffers for Christmas. At £2.99 each, they last such a long time and really deliver great results.

It’s absolutely worth every penny and I would 100% recommend anyone to try it out. Just smell this product first too see if the fragrance free option would be better for you.

How do you use Eight Hour Cream?

Christmas Gift Guide | 24 Gift Idea's For The Holiday Season

Every year i plan to have all my christmas gifts bought and wrapped by the end of November, and every year i fail.

I have a fear of buying gifts prematurely and then finding something better when the christmas sales hit the shops. So now it is almost mid December i have to get my butt in gear and buy all the remaining gifts i have yet to purchase for my family and friends.

I like to give unique and useful gifts during the holidays. I love spoiling the people who mean the most to me and find them something i know they will truly love.

So here is 24 things that i think anyone would like to see wrapped under the christmas tree. One for everyday of December right?

I am aware there is a gold theme running throughout this gift guide. Oops!

Any of these accompanied with a chocolate orange, pj's and a bottle of wine would be the cherry on top of the tree. Or star in this case.

My Winter Essentials

I had all sorts of exciting posts planned for today and then illness graced my presents and fluffed up any plans of mine to deliver an exciting post. So i thought i would post a light hearted winter essentials instead.

1. Candles; Nothing say's christmas time and everything festive like some scented candles. I am currently obsessing over Sparkling Cinnamon and vanilla Sugar from Yankee Candle.

2. Christmas Movies; Now i do admit i have been watching christmas movies since july but now its decemeber it is acceptable to share with the world the fact you have already watched elf twenty times this year.

3. Body Butter; I am guilty of neglecting my skin more often than a should. When i get out the shower i am cold and the idea of standing butt naked in a cold bathroom to apply a cold moisturiser had no appeal to me what so ever. But i have really been trying to look after my skin during these harsh cold months and i can already see a huge difference. I am currently using the Body Shop Body Butter in the Blueberry scent.

4. Easy Scents; When it comes to perfumes i will admit i am a huge hoarder. I love everything perfume and my two drawer stash of glorious scents in my bedroom will agree with that statement. This year i have been trying to find more affordable scents to wear on a daily basis for work or running errands so i can save my more luxurious perfumes for nicer events. I have fallen in love with the Body Shop sprays. They have a great range of scents and the fragrance lingers on you all day. I am currently using the shea butter scent and it smells so luxurious and sexy.

5. Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream; If i had only one product to use the whole winter it would be this. It is like my little holy grail beauty secret that is always in my bag and never leaves my side. I LOVE this stuff. I use it everywhere, on my lips, on my elbows, and thanks to my ever lasting cold the end of my nose. It is just such a soothing luxury product that shows instant benefits.

6. Cosy Scarfs; I am that friend that constantly resembles an eskimo during the winter months. I love huge scarfs i can wear that can transform into a blanket to keep me warm during long and gruelling death by powerpoint lectures. I picked this scarf up from Primark for £4 and it is the softest, fluffiest and biggest scarf i have ever seen. Winner.

7. Red Lipsticks; Nothing screams Tis the season to be joly but red lippy. I love having a bold statement lip during the holiday season. But i also love having something a little bit more subtle if i don't feel like fully committing to the upkeep of a red lip and risk smudging it down my chin whilst sipping on my coffee.

8. Chocolate; Hear me out. If your a self referred chocoholic like me then you can totally appreciate the guilt free feeling of stuffing your face in December (December is the month where it is ok to resemble a small whale in a chocolate bath). I have been obsessed with galaxy counters this year and now it is December i can feel slightly less guilty whilst eating a share bag entirely to myself watching re-runs of PLL on netflix.

9. Smokey Eye Palette; Now whist the Naked Smokey Palette has been all the rage the past few months (I hoping santa brings me this palette this year), i have been more inspired to try smokey eyes. I usually play it safe when it comes to eyeshadow but the past few months i have been branching out into more adventurous colours and a smokey eye is perfect for the winter months. This is MAC's palette in An Amorous Adventure.

Best Of | Makeup Revolution Palettes

Makeup Revolution wholeheartedly took over beauty blogs in 2014! Makeup Revolution has released the best budget palettes I have ever come across and with the constant new launches it just keeps getting better and better. I just wanted to share some of the best palettes I have found within Makeup Revolution for any other palette hoarders like myself.

MUR quality is above and beyond any other drugstore palette I have ever come across, and over the past year I have accumulated quite a little collection of MUR palettes. These palettes are unbelievable quality for the price point.

Lets start with the eye palettes. I have the Iconic Pro 1 Palette, Salvation Palette in What are you waiting for?, Ultra Eyeshadow Palette in Beyond Flawless and finally the Ultra Eyeshadow Palette in Flawless Matte.

If you’re an eyeshadow junkie like me then you will be in your element with these palettes. The pigmentation is amazing, the texture is so smooth and buttery and the lasting power gives Urban Decay a run for its money. All of these swatches are on my bare skin without a primer. You can see the quality of these eyeshadows. The Beyond Flawless Palette is an absolutely amazing palette for someone who loves neutrals. It is stunning. At £8 for 32 super high quality eyeshadows is a steal.

One thing I was very pleasantly surprised at is the quality of the matte shadows. I am not usually a huge fan of matte eyeshadows and only tend to reach for them as transition colour as I often find them quite chalky and can make the eye area look quite dry. But the shadows in the Flawless Matte Palette are the complete opposite. They have such a buttery consistency, they blend like a dream and the pigmentation is fantastic.

The consistency of these palettes are stunning. There are no chalky shades or shadows that are disappointing in these palettes. MUR also have a lot of bright coloured palettes so check them out if interested in trying something a little more daring.

My makeup weakness is illuminating products. I love anything shimmery, shiny and glitzy. And the MUR Blush and Highlighter Palettes are no exception to this obsession. The texture of these blushes are beautiful and they blend so effortlessly into the skin and leave a really natural flush of colour to the face. This is the only blush palette you will need in the cheek department. The colour range in this palette is fantastic as it contains everything from a nude brown shade, to peachy corals and pinks. This palette also comes housed with two unbelievable highlighters. That is eight amazing quality matte blushes for only £6. The lighter highlighter shade is so so sparkly and very smooth and buttery on application. It is not a shade of highlighter I would usually reach for but I was pleasantly surprised, however it may be a little OTT for everyday (let’s face it glitter is never OTT). Perfect for the festive season?
MUR also do some different shades of blush palettes so maybe give them a try if pink isn’t your thing.

The MUR Highlighter Palette is perfect for any highlighter junkies out there. I love how versatile this palette is as it can be used on the face, and eyes to really brighten up the inner corner and make your eyes look more awake (which comes in handy after a week of night shifts). The Palette holds three quite large pans which consist of a champagne colour highlight, a slightly pinky shade and a lovely lilac shade. When I first saw this lilac I thought I would never use it but its my favourite in this whole palette. It is perfect as a blush topper when wearing dark lips in the autumn/winter months.

They are incredibly pigmented so use sparingly with your brush, as I learnt the hard way. I cannot believe the value for money with MUR products.

If your still with me then congratulations. This has been a long post but I just cannot stress how much value for money these MUR palettes are. They are such an inexpensive way to expand your makeup collection and with its versatility there is something for everyone.

13 Things I Have Learnt From Working Night Shifts

When half of us lay our head down to rest at night, the other half of us begin their days. Night shifts can be gruelling and tiring on a regular basis, not to mention it completely messes up your routine and just life in general for the few days following.

If you work shift work or just solid night shifts im sure you can relate to some of these things.

1) The postman  will 100% judge you for being in your pjs and sporting bed hair at 4pm

2) It is completely acceptable to chow down on pringles and biscuits all night long and it totally does not count as syns on your slimming world diet

3) It is the rule for your neighbours to decide to be extra noisy and trim the grass when your trying to sleep after your twelve hour shift

4) Your night shift will always fall on daylight savings. There is no way of describing the sheer heartbreak of watching the clock at 1.59 click back to 01:00

5) Even though people know you have been on a night shift they will insist on calling you at 1pm to rant about their boyfriends shitty manoeuvre regardless of the fact youve only been sleeping three hours

6) You go to work in the dark and come home in the dark. You become the ultimate vampire

7) You will become partial to a good ghost story and are extra jumpy for the rest of your shift until the morning staff come on to save you from the floating ghost in corridor two

8) The struggle of staying awake in the morning rush hour traffic on your drive home. The rocking motion  of stopping and starting your car in traffic is enough to send anyone off to the land of zzz's

9) Meal times become a thing of the past. Breakfast at 4pm, lunch at 2am and tea at 8am with a completely acceptable amounts of pringles tubes and packets of hob nobs in between

10) The discussion of a good mug becomes prime topic of conversation at 3am when janet presents the new mug she bought from sainsburys on sale at 8am that holds the perfect amount of coffee.

11) You can only do your shopping in 24 hour supermarkets

12) Meaning you and the sales assistant at Tesco have bonded over the past few visits as there is no one else in store

13) You get stuck in a sleep and work cycle and become an anti-social bore until your night shifts end

This past year has proven to be an emotional whirlwind for me, in more ways than one. I had changed so much this past year and without noticing lost who I was; and I am not sure how much of that change has been good for me. I won’t go into specifics of why this year has required a whole lot of lady balls and a bottles of wine, but I have had to learn some tough lessons and experience a lot of heartbreak in 2015. Being twenty one, this is the time of my life where I am supposed to be discovering new adventures, making friends and living life to the fullest. But this couldn’t of been further than reality.

It wasn’t until a few months ago, where I hit a really dark point in my life. I had a heart to heart with my manager (AKA really good friend) and she said these words to me ‘ your young, you should be happy so do what is best for you, you can be selfish’.  Now even though I has heard these words over and over from friends it was only now that it hit home. I needed to change. I was so unhappy.

The most frustrating thing about it all was that I did not know why I was so unhappy. In the past I have touched on my experience with depression, but I took it down a few hours later because I thought it was slightly too personal; and also I didn’t want to seem like a debbie downer to anyone stumbling along my blog. In my life I have always put everyone else first. Now I am not saying that’s a bad thing because well honestly that’s the nurse in me and I hate seeing people upset and down; but I forget to take some me time and think about my own happiness.

After a lot of soul searching, a lot of tears and a lot of stuffing my face with galaxy bars and pizza (#notashamed) i came to realise that my self-esteem was affected by other people’s opinions of me. And it was only then I came to the recollection that I had always been this way; I had always worried too much about other people’s opinions of me. I compared myself to everyone in the fear of not being good enough and the fear that everyone I cared about would run in the opposite direction because I wasn’t perfect. Silly right?

I would always push myself too far and stress myself too much that I would make myself ill in the fear of not being perfect. I know some people say there is nothing wrong with being a perfectionist but I beg to differ. I would get extremely anxious if someone saw me on a bad day or I wasn’t 100% put together with a full face of makeup and hair on fleek.

I had always felt really awkward and found it hard to accept compliments. I would always accompany my compliment with a bad point about myself; it was as though I was trying purposely not to hear or accept the compliment because I felt it was not true or that I was being compared when that was completely not the case. I struggled to look someone in the eye if I knew they were looking at me. It was only these past few months I have come to recollection of how unhealthy that is, to constantly live up to a perfection I will never be. No one will.

There is a huge taboo about confidence these days, particularly on social media. If someone talks about a characteristic, body part, talent etc, that they feel is a great thing they almost get judged instantly that they are egocentric or narcissistic. I think that is really sad, why should we always focus on our negatives? We are all tip top guys and gals and shouldn’t feel we have to hide that.
So here is a list of some great, and not so great characteristic traits of mine that I have acquired in these past few months.

Great Things:
·         I am very assertive, I stick to my guns and im hard to persuad
·         I now step out of my comfort zone a lot more than I used too. I will actually go for a catch up with an old friend instead of just stuffing my face and binge watching Netflix in hiding
·         I now look after my health more. This year I attend the gym 3-4 times a week and make healthier choices in day to day life
·         I can successfully remove negative people from my life
·         I am focused on my goals and I am constantly working towards them

 Not so great things:
·         I tend to dwell on the past a lot, what could have been?
·         I tend to push people away a lot easier than I should
·         I can sometimes be a tad too negative. I love positive people and I really feed off their energy however I don’t always provide that in return
·         I don’t tend to share my feelings and bottle them up until I have a completely hysterical melt down involving wine and a huge bag of galaxy counters
·         My mouth overrides my brain a lot and I often say a lot of things without thinking of the repercussions

Anyway, I am writing this to mark the end of an era and start of fresh, a healthier, more realistic happier perception on life. My plan is to hopefully one day in the near future be able to walk my dog without a scrap of makeup on and say thank you to a compliment and store it in my brain for safe keeping. I am going to start making more plans and enjoying my life in my twenty’s a lot more.

When I am 70 years old and my grandkids are asking for stories about when I was younger I want to have realms of stories to tell that fuel their little minds, not feel sad when I look back on how I felt in my twenty’s.

Beauty Haul: Drugstore

Its been a while since i graced the shelves of boots with my well earned penny's but i was in town the other day and needed to pop into boots so i had a little nosey round the shelves whilst i was in there. I have been having a little bit of trouble with my skin lately post holiday, it is super sensitive and irritable. I decided to try out the Simple Skincare Range as it is targeted specifically for sensitive skin and has a good reputation, so while it was on 3 for 2 i thought why the hell not.

I have been trying them out for a week now and i have to say its a big thumbs up so far. My skin has really cleared up, the texture has improved and i find the moisturiser really helps my makeup stay looking fresh throughout the day. The illuminting radiance cream is on the left and the night cream on the right. The textures are both very nice, the night cream is slightly thicker but absorbs super quickly and leaves the skin feeling plump and refreshed.

However, i do not really rate the face wipes. I know i know, face wipes are bad for you but you cant deny after a long day we are partial to using the odd face wipe. These feel like a scouring pad, very rough on the skin and irritate my face so much.

I have had my eyes on the Barry M Daylight Curing nail polish for some time now, and also their Gelly Hi Shine Lipsticks; and as they where also on 3 for 2 i thought it was the perfect time as i got a free product. I LOVE the Gelly Hi Shine Lipsticks and will 100% buying more. They are so glossy, non sticky and moisturising and last on the lips for a really long time.

I am also super impressed with the Daylight Curing Nail Polish, It turns any nail polish into a gel polish and gives the finish and feel of a shellac manicure. Ok, so it is not salon quality but for £4.99 it stops chipping and gives your nails a much more sleek finish for at least 7-10 days. I also picked up their nail polish in 273 Raspberry as my free gift. I had this colour last autumn and used the whole bottle up so i just knew i had to purchase it again this year. Last year i put a matte topcoat on top and it completely changed the appearance of the polish, It is so versatile an perfect for the cooler months.
